The Very Rev. John Mann
The Very Rev John Mann was born in London and educated in Romford, and later at Queen’s University and the Church of Ireland Theological College. Before joining Belfast Cathedral he was rector of St John’s Malone 2002 – 2011
Rev Mark Niblock
The Rev Canon Mark Niblock was appointed as Dean’s Vicar at the Cathedral in 2016. Mark was curate assistant in Agherton Parish, Portstewart, from his ordination in June 2008 until his move to St Comgall’s, Rathcoole, in May 2012.
Rev Janice Elsdon
The Rev Janice Elsdon is responsible for ministry with our many volunteers and interns at Belfast Cathedral. Janice has previously ministered in Cloughfern, Ahoghill and Portglenone and in South Belfast Rural Deanery, latterly in Saint Bartholomew’s – where her husband was Rector.
Simon leads the commercial aspects of Belfast Cathedral, coordinating all of our tourism and corporate activities. He is a Director of the Cathedral Quarter BID and has previously worked for the Northern Ireland Government, Aer Lingus and Chain Reaction Cycles in marketing, event management and business development.
Master of Choristers
David oversees the musical life of the Cathedral, directing the Cathedral choirs on a weekly basis.A former Director of the Girls’ Choir and Sub–Organist at Newcastle Cathedral, and Director of Campus Music at Northumbria University, David joined Belfast Cathedral in 2011.
Ian holds fellowship of the Royal College of Organists with the Choirmaster’s Diploma. He is an Associate of the Royal College of Music for both organ performance and piano accompaniment and holds a degree in theology from Bishop’s University, Quebec.
In 2014 Ian was awarded the Associateship of the Royal School of Church Music in recognition of his 30 years service to the St. Anne’s.
Assistant Master of the Choristers
A specialist in career music, Thérèse trains the Junior Boys’ Choir and deputises as conductor for all the Cathedral choirs. She has taught at St Dominic’s Grammar School, Royal Belfast Academical Institution, Methodist College Belfast and now teaches the Cathedral Choir Schools.
Head of Vocal Tuition
Catherine oversees the vocal tuition of the cathedral’s choristers and the musical curriculum of the children in the Cathedral’s Choir Schools. She studied at the Royal Academy of Music London. Catherine has taught in various roles including the Welsh College of Music, Cardiff, the University of Ulster and Queen’s University, Belfast. She is also a Diploma examiner for the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music.
Marie is a qualified chartered accountant and also has a Certificate in Lifelong Learning in Theology. A business studies graduate of Queen’s University, Marie has considerable experience across a number of charity and public sector organisations.
Karen writes our web news and produces the Cathedral Digest as well as liaising with the media. A ‘seasoned’ journalist, she has worked in Northern Ireland, London and Australia and is a former editor of the Ulster Gazette (Armagh). She has freelanced for daily and national media and has worked in PR with the Big Lottery Fund.
