Another Year of Wonderful Music from our Choir

Trinity Sunday marked the last day of term for our choir, who now take a well-deserved break for the Summer.
Our choir is composed of voluntary members and a number of choral scholars. Under the leadership of Jack Wilson, our Master of Music, it has gone from strength to strength in the past year, adding to its number choristers who come from schools across the Belfast area. Our music department has enjoyed numerous high profile successes this year, providing outstanding music for last year's Advent Procession, a performance on BBC Radio Ulster, a suite of excellent Holy Week services, a civic service to mark the 80th Anniversary of VE Day, and much more - in addition to singing our Sunday morning Eucharist and Evensong on Sundays and Fridays.
In the afternoon of Trinity Sunday, the Dean celebrated a Eucharist in thanksgiving for all the ways in which our choir have enriched both our worship and the community of our church over the past year. In his sermon, the Curate thanked the choir for their participation in a community of holy love and harmony which aspires to reflect the life of our Triune God, saying that we cannot be like God if we do not choose to be together in love. The service was led by the Rev'd Julie Bell, Minor Canon, who has been a constant presence among our choristers, encouraging the music department and supporting it with her pastoral and musical gifts. The Master of Music, Jack Wilson, conducted the choir, assisted by organ scholars Darragh Magee and Finn Sloan. The choir sang Neil Cox's Missa Brevis, a favourite of our choristers, and Mr Wilson's own setting of Do not be afraid.
After the service, the choir and their families enjoyed a barbecue in celebration of all the spouses and chorister parents who make our choir possible with their tireless support.
Our choir is always open to new members and choral scholarships are available for senior school and university students. Our choristers receive personal tuition, gain a first-class musical education through participation in the choir, and have lots of fun. If you or your child are interested in joining for the new term beginning in September, please email admin@belfastcathedral.org to arrange an audition with Mr Wilson.
