'Soul Music'

An uplifting programme of music from both sides of the Atlantic

The Shippensburg University Concert Choir, Pennsylvania is comprised of students representing all departments of the University, is an ensemble of approximately 25 singers selected by audition.  Although the university offers a music minor, there is no music major;  therefore, all students in the choir are here because of an inherent love for singing and not to fulfill a graduation requirement.  These students balance learning music and rehearsals with all of the classes and obligations within their major.

The Concert Choir’s repertoire consists of classic and contemporary works plus a variety of folk songs, gospel, and world music.  Over the years, the choir has sung under the direction of Aaron Copland, Vincent Persichetti, Alan Hovhaness, and Daniel Pinkham as part of week-long festivals centered on the music of these composers.  They have earned a reputation for their moving and musical interpretations and the energy they bring to their performances.  The choir’s season includes several off-campus concerts as well as an annual spring tour. The choir was personally invited to perform in the 2015 inauguration of Shippensburg University President Jody Harpster as well as the April 2018 inauguration of President Laurie Carter.  Both performances were televised and garnered significant acclaim. In May of 2019, the choir will travel to Ireland to represent the University in the group’s first-ever international tour.
