16th October Harvest Sunday and Cathedral Gift Day

Belfast Cathedral - 16th October Harvest Sunday and Cathedral Gift Day

Sunday 16th October, 2022 will be marked as Harvest Sunday and Cathedral Gift Day at St Anne's.

Although our cathedral commands a city centre location, far from any farm or field, we can all find reason to Give Thanks to God for his presence and care throughout the past twelve months, whether those months have been easy or challenging. And this year, harvest comes with an additional challenge, the call to be generous out of what we have for those who need our generosity to carry them through the hardest of times this winter. That is why, this Harvest Sunday we are asking our parishioners to bring gifts of groceries to supply our local foodbank. At a time when supermarkets are cutting back on waste, the demand placed on foodbanks across the country is rising. And many foodbanks are finding it increasingly difficult to meet demand as the "Cost of Living Crisis" increases.

This Harvest Sunday we are appealing to our cathedral congregation to bring a shopping bag with items to place into our very own cathedral shopping trolley.

Please also remember that this is your opportunity to make a special Harvest Donation to the finances of our cathedral (using the envelope in your FWO box or by writing a cheque). It has come as a shock to discover that it now costs more than £120 an hour to fully heat the cathedral.

On Sunday our 11am Harvest Service will be led by Rev Janice Elsdon, and the preacher will be Gillian McGaughey. The Intercessor will be Rev Dr Maithre White, and the Celebrant Canon Raymond Fox. Mrs Hayley Howe will be the Harvest soloist, with her husband as organist.

You are also invited to our 3.30pm afternoon Harvest Service.

Please note that there is ample parking in the cathedral's Academy Street car park. However because of the ongoing diversions due to last week's fire, entry to the car park via the gate from Talbot Street opposite the coffee shop. There is also plenty of on-street parking on a Sunday.
