Belfast Cathedral seeks to appoint as part-time MASTER of MUSIC a highly qualified, skilled, and enthusiastic Choir Director, Organist and Music Department Lead who is an inspiring communicator and who will work collaboratively with the Dean, all members of the music department and other cathedral staff to develop the music of Belfast Cathedral following recent restructuring.

The Master of Music will be responsible for recruiting, and training to the highest standard, a SATB Voluntary Choir (who will each be paid an expenses allowance) to sing at two choral services each Sunday, at principal festivals, and for state and other special services held at Belfast Cathedral.

Additionally the Master of Music will be responsible for,

  • Recruiting, training and directing a Children’s Choir of boys and girls as Cathedral Choristers
  • Management of the cathedral music department, and department staff.

The Master of Music post will be available from 1st March, 2023. A later starting date may be negotiable.

The two year fixed term post is 18.75 hours per week with an annual salary of £21,800 with up to an additional £200 for Continuing Professional Development. The post is for a fixed term of two years. The post may be renewable by mutual agreement. There will be a probationary period of six months.

Reasonable travel expenses will be paid by the Cathedral to shortlisted applicants, and a contribution to accommodation costs, if needed.
