Archdeacon George Davison appointed Bishop of Connor Diocese

Belfast cathedral is pleased to welcome news of the appointment of the Archdeacon of Belfast, the Venerable George Davison, as Bishop-elect of Connor diocese, succeeding the Right Reverend Alan Abernethy, who retired on 31 December 2019.

Archdeacon Davison is Precentor of the Cathedral, a Board member, and one of Black Santa’s not-so Little Helpers at the annual Cathedral Sit Out!

The Rt Rev Patrick Rooke, President of the Electoral College and Bishop of Tuam, Killala and Achonry, said: ‘I congratulate Archdeacon George Davison on his election as Bishop of Connor. I am confident that he will be a popular choice and a wise and caring leader in a diocese he knows well.’ The date for the consecration service will be determined following approval by the House of Bishops.

The bishop-elect said: ‘I am very conscious of the great responsibility that is being entrusted to me. I am immensely thankful for the gifted colleagues who serve the Church in Connor Diocese and look forward to serving with them as we seek to share the Good News of Jesus Christ in the years ahead.’

The Cathedral wishes Archdeacon George well, and assures him of our prayers for him and his family, and for the people of St Nicholas, Carrickfergus, where he has been Rector for the last 11 years, in this time of transition over the months ahead.
