Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

John 15:13

Christ,

I see thy crown of thorns in every eye,

thy bleeding, wounded naked body in every soul;

thy death liveth in every memory;

thy wounded body is embalmed in every affection;

thy pierced feet are bathed in everyone’s tears;

and it is my privilege to enter with thee

into every soul.

Thomas Traherne, 1636-74

From the foot of the cross I look up to thee

O Jesus Lord bow down to me.

For I stand in the faith of my God today:

put love in my heart and hope alway.

God, lover of us all,

most holy one,

help us to respond to you,

to create what you want for us here on earth.

Give us today enough for our needs;

forgive our weak and deliberate offences,

just as we forgive others

when they hurt us.

Help us to resist evil

and to do what is good;

for we are yours,

endowed with your power

to make our world whole.
