Organ Scholarship Available

The Dean and Cathedral Board invite applications for the Organ Scholarship at St Anne’s Cathedral Belfast. The post is available from 1 September 2019 when Mr Jack Wilson will be leaving the Cathedral to undertake postgraduate organ and choral studies at Cambridge.

The Scholarship will provide a high standard of training in choral conducting and organ accompaniment in a Cathedral environment. Applicants will thus need to have reached a standard of organ performance and general musicianship that will enable them to avail of the educational opportunities which the Scholarship provides.

The position will be particularly attractive to organists hoping to pursue a career in cathedral music.

Details of the opportunities which the Scholarship will provide are contained in the Scholarship Agreement.

The Organ Scholar will receive a grant of £4,500 per annum and there is a training budget of £500 per annum. The post will be for one year, renewable annually by mutual agreement for up to three years.

Applications should be sent to Mr David Stevens, Director of Music, david@belfastcathedral.org by 30 April 2019.  An application should include a curriculum vitae and the names and contact details of two referees.

Shortlisted applicants will be informed by 3 May 2019. They will be invited for interview and will be asked to perform two contrasting organ works, one of which should be from the Baroque repertoire, and to undertake some keyboard exercises including sight reading.

Organists wishing to visit the Cathedral or have an informal discussion about the Scholarship prior to the closing date are welcome to contact the Director of Music through the Cathedral Office on 028 9032 8332.
